Fees for Probate work

We are keen for our potential clients to obtain best value for money and to be able to budget when they are looking for Probate services.

To assist with this, we always aim to have an introductory meeting wherever possible. This allows us to gain a basic understanding of the estate which then enables us to consider and explain the likely work involved, together with an estimate of the cost of that work. This meeting will be free of charge and without obligation.

Our fees are generally fixed at the start of an engagement but can be subject to certain variables by agreement. If increases in cost are likely, this will be explained at the initial meeting.

Typically our fees for a complete Probate assignment will be calculated on the following basis:

1.5% of estate assets other than property plus 0.75% of property value. In addition, all our fees are subject to VAT @ 20%.

For example, an estate with £200,000 in savings and investments together with a share of property worth £150,000 will typically incur fees of around £4,125 + VAT.

Please note that where the number of assets in the estate is small, or where property values are relatively large, our fees may be proportionately lower.

Fees for more complex estates may be greater, but this will be explained at the initial meeting. Such estates will include the liaising with several other professionals (for example valuers) or where the work is protracted by circumstances outside our control (such as difficulties in obtaining information).

The above is subject to a minimum fee of £2,000 + VAT

Disbursements made on behalf of clients are in addition to these fees.
